ART NOUVEAU AND TURN-OF-THE-CENTURY VIENNA

--> Picture Gallery

The decline of the Austrian monarchy gave birth to an outstanding artistic and intellectual period. A major break took place shortly before 1900. The Modern was beginning. Gustav Klimt, Adolf Loos, Sigmund Freud and many more have acquired the status of brand names.

Art Nouveau was an international movement. The Viennese variety is known as Secession. Vienna's most original Art Nouveau building, also known as Secession, houses Klimt's Beethoven-frieze. Otto Wagner's Post Office Savings Bank and Adolf Loos' “Haus” and his “American Bar” are keyworks of modern architecture.
